Cocktails and Cacti Fiesta!

Salt & Grinder is Chef Frank Bonanno’s New Jersey-style deli and salumeria. The Perfect Petal is teaming up with the deli to host a hands-on (literally) cacti planting and cocktail sipping fiesta. While you get down with some margaritas, you’ll get to plant four succulents in a container for your new garden.

Pinata Cakes for Cinco de Mayo
Maggie & Molly’s Sweet Life is offering plenty of sugary treats for Cinco de Mayo, like these Pinata Cakes. (Provided by Maggie & Molly’s Sweet Life)

Maggie & Molly’s Sweet Life
Location: 2908 E. 6th Ave., Denver
When: May 5, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Put down your sombrero for a moment, hombre. It’s still a Friday, which means you’re at work until the end of your shift. But that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate sober in the office while sugaring up your boss and co-workers. Maggie & Molly’s Sweet Life is going outside of the box and offering Cinco de Mayo sugar cookies for $36/dozen and piñata mini cakes to take to your afternoon meeting for $32 for an order of eight. The cakes are filled with margarita butter cream and covered with vanilla butter cream and decorated like a pretty Mexican senorita’s skirt. Inside, the geniuses in the kitchen cut a hole and added sprinkles, like a Mexican piñata.

First Friday Cinco de Mayo Cultural Walk on Tennyson
When: May 5, 5-10 p.m.

This is a low-key, more sober-y event to attend on Cinco de Mayo. First Friday season is here and you can celebrate with lots of local art, shopping, drinks, food and local Berkeley flavor in Denver. The First Friday Cultural Walk is a long tradition on Tennyson Street with the latest art exhibits, galleries and restaurant specials.

Do you have plans for Saturday night? Well, you do now! El Vez the Mexican Elvis is performing at Ophelia’s and we’re already throwing on his hits on Spotify to get us amped. We’re hoping this isn’t your first El Vez concert, but if it is, we won’t judge. He’s the Latin sensation who has appeared on “The Tonight Show,” “Oprah,” “MTV” and more. He brings a social-political-Las Vegas-via-Memphis by way of Mexico rock ‘n’ roll to the stage. Get jazzed.
