Not to get all fancy on you, but try the barbacoa de Borrego with guajillo pepper-steamed lamb neck and cheek topped with radish-cilantro-onion salad. Yum.
Punch Bowl Social probably isn’t the first venue that comes to mind on Cinco de Mayo, but hear us out: It has a Watermelon Polo Bowl made with Sauza Blue Reposado tequila, Denver’s Teakoe watermelon spearmint tea, watermelon shrub, housemade strawberry syrup and fresh lime juice. Swoon. Once you earn your liquid courage, belt it out in the private karaoke rooms or hit the arcade for vintage video and pinball games. Call 303-765-2695 for reservations.

You can come early for happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. with $5 tap wines and apps. And stay for sweet beats by Latin soul band the Tasty Grooves.
Howl at the Moon Denver will be offering buckets of blue margaritas. Yeah, buckets. Because … well, do you need a reason to have margarita buckets on a Friday AND Cinco de Mayo? We think not. The buckets go for $20/each. Patrons will also enjoy $4 Corona Extras, $5 Cuervo margaritas and shots.

Salt & Grinder is Chef Frank Bonanno’s New Jersey-style deli and salumeria. The Perfect Petal is teaming up with the deli to host a hands-on (literally) cacti planting and cocktail sipping fiesta. While you get down with some margaritas, you’ll get to plant four succulents in a container for your new garden.
Maggie & Molly’s Sweet Life Location:2908 E. 6th Ave., Denver When:May 5, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Website:maggieandmollys.com
Put down your sombrero for a moment, hombre. It’s still a Friday, which means you’re at work until the end of your shift. But that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate sober in the office while sugaring up your boss and co-workers. Maggie & Molly’s Sweet Life is going outside of the box and offering Cinco de Mayo sugar cookies for $36/dozen and piñata mini cakes to take to your afternoon meeting for $32 for an order of eight. The cakes are filled with margarita butter cream and covered with vanilla butter cream and decorated like a pretty Mexican senorita’s skirt. Inside, the geniuses in the kitchen cut a hole and added sprinkles, like a Mexican piñata.

This is a low-key, more sober-y event to attend on Cinco de Mayo. First Friday season is here and you can celebrate with lots of local art, shopping, drinks, food and local Berkeley flavor in Denver. El Vez, The Mexican Elvis at Ophelia’s Location:1215 20th St., Denver When:May 6, 9 p.m.-midnight Website/tickets:ticketfly.com
Do you have plans for Saturday night? Well, you do now! El Vez the Mexican Elvis is performing at Ophelia’s and we’re already throwing on his hits on Spotify to get us amped. We’re hoping this isn’t your first El Vez concert, but if it is, we won’t judge. He’s the Latin sensation who has appeared on “The Tonight Show,” “Oprah,” “MTV” and more. He brings a social-political-Las Vegas-via-Memphis by way of Mexico rock ‘n’ roll to the stage. Get jazzed.
