After tieing with Portland, Ore., and San Francisco in October for the fastest rate of annual home price appreciation, metro Denver fell back to third place in November, according to the S&P/CaseShiller Home Price Indices.

Denver had a 10.9 percent gain in home prices, barely trailing San Francisco at 11 percent and Portland at 11.1 percent.

A composite index that tracks home prices in 20 major metros rose 5.8 percent in November versus a 5.3 percent gain in October.

The national index is still about 4.8 percent below the peak it set nearly a decade ago in July 2006. Metro Denver's index, by contrast, continues to set new highs.

Think it might be time to sell?
