The city of Loveland wants to address the issue of affordable housing, but recognizes it’s not an easy task because there are no simple solutions.
That’s why Community Partnership Office administrator Alison Hade has held a series of presentations on affordable housing to the City Council with proposed solutions for city council members to consider.
On Feb. 7, City Council approved Loveland Habitat for Humanity and Loveland Housing Authority as the preferred providers for the city to work on affordable housing projects. On March 7, the City Council approved using 1.25 percent of 2016’s sales tax collection to create an affordable housing fund. That money would also supplement federal Community Development Block Grant funding for affordable housing, if the doesn’t eliminate the CDBG program.
Hade and the Affordable Housing Commission have also been working for more than a year on amending the city’s Affordable Housing Code. The Planning Commission approved the changes on March 13, and the City Council will consider adopting those changes on Tuesday.
